Why off-the-shelf software ends up expensive
The subscription is the small part. The cost is everything the team does alongside the software to make it work anyway.
A generic package targets the average of thousands of companies. Yours differs from that average by definition: a particular approval chain, a specific way of counting stock, a customer who insists on one exact format. Where you differ, the tool has nothing to offer.
So teams improvise with a spreadsheet on the side, a notebook or a chat group. The information that belongs in the system ends up there instead. Every workaround adds a manual entry and a source of errors that nobody can verify.
The real cost never appears on an invoice. It is lost hours, stock discrepancies, forgotten orders, and decisions made on numbers nobody is sure of.
